March CLE

Please join us on March 16, 2012 for our monthly luncheon where we will host Beth Padgett, Assistant Director of the South Carolina Bar’s Lawyers Helping Lawyers Program, who will present “An Invitation to Well-being,” a one-hour CLE designed to meet the new legal ethics/professional responsibility (LEPR) requirements beginning in 2011 to obtain an hour of LEPR instruction every three years devoted exclusively to substance abuse or mental health issues and the legal profession.

The Lawyers Helping Lawyers Program is designed to provide assistance to lawyers in need. Ms. Padgett's presentation will include an explanation of “Mindfulness,” which she describes as the practice of living in the moment. She has completed a program on the subject at the Duke Integrative Medicine Center. Ms. Padgett says that lawyers tend to multi-task and to be perfectionists, so if you are thinking about what you will be doing tomorrow and how well it will go, then you are not acting with Mindfulness and will need to redirect your focus to the present. She will also provide simple strategies for increasing well-being.
